Summary: the roles of research organisations, publishers and funders in upholding responsible Artificial Intelligence use
Tuesday 23 June 2026
On Tuesday 23 June 2026, we hosted the second and final Roundtable event of 2025-2026.
This roundtable brought together subject specialists, research organisations, publishers, and funders to explore their roles in upholding the responsible use of AI. While the use of AI raises research integrity questions across the research lifecycle, this roundtable focuses specifically on peer review in the contexts of both scholarly publishing and grant assessment.
Peer review represents a particularly complex and high-stakes area for all stakeholders. While AI offers potential efficiencies, it also raises questions about what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate use. These boundaries are not only technically challenging but also shaped by differing perspectives, responsibilities, and contexts across the research ecosystem.
