Professor Ian Mabbett

Professor Ian Mabbett is a senior academic and research leader based at Swansea University, where he earned his MChem and EngD degrees before going on to build a distinguished career within the institution. He currently holds the position of Deputy-Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research Culture, reflecting his commitment to fostering excellence and integrity across the research community. Within this role, he also serves as Director of the Morgan Advanced Studies Institute, advancing the interdisciplinary research environment of the university, and is a member of the REF2029 Specialist Expert Panel. Beyond his academic leadership, Professor Ian Mabbett has demonstrated significant operational expertise to the Board, having acted as Chief Operating Officer for the SUNRISE Global Network. He is a Trustee of Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW), as a Non Executive Director of STEM Cymru, and is a former member of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Professional Standards Board. He also chairs the Wales Innovation Network’s Net Zero and Decarbonisation Steering Group, underscoring his dedication to driving sustainable change at a national level.
