Jeremy Barraud

Jeremy Barraud is Director of Operations in the Office of the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) at University College London (UCL). Founded in 1826, UCL is London’s leading multidisciplinary university, with more than 13,000 staff and 42,000 students from 150 different countries. UCL was rated second in the UK for research power in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 and at any one time it holds a research funding portfolio worth over £2bn.

Jeremy collaborates with colleagues on the effective governance and operation of research, innovation, and international activities. This includes oversight of how UCL meets its compliance obligations in these activities and implements policy and operational enhancements.

Jeremy has a long-standing interest in research ethics and integrity. At University of the Arts London, he oversaw the research ethics committee structure and contributed to emerging thinking on the ethical dimensions of practice-based research. His remit at UCL covers research ethics and developing how the university responds to emerging challenges in this area.

During his higher education career, he has also worked at Royal Holloway, SOAS, and City, University of London. He complements this with experience of the charity sector and international partnerships from his time as Director of Programmes at the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation.

Jeremy holds a BA(Hons) History from the University of Warwick. During his undergraduate studies he spent a year as a Warwick History Scholar at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. He also holds a Masters in International Studies from the University of Birmingham. Jeremy has a long-standing interest in Japan and lived there for several years.
