UKRIO publishes template procedure for investigating breaches of integrity

15 December 2025

UKRIO is pleased to announce the release of our Detailed template procedure for investigating breaches of research integrity – a new practical resource designed to support research organisations in responding to concerns about research conduct in a fair, proportionate, and robust manner.

Adapted and updated from UKRIO’s 2023 Procedure for the Investigation of Misconduct in Research, this new template reflects the latest sector guidance, including developments in the 2025 Concordat to Support Research Integrity, alongside improvements to accessibility and a revised approach that helps destigmatise investigations into research conduct.

🔄 This resource provides a clear, adaptable framework that can be applied across a wide range of situations – from relatively straightforward concerns resolved early, to complex cases requiring a full investigation.

This refreshed resource provides:

  • A detailed template procedure outlining an investigation process
  • An accompanying flowchart providing a clear visual overview

Designed as an adaptable guide rather than a prescriptive standard, the template can be tailored to an organisation’s governance and disciplinary frameworks and supports fair, transparent, and evidence-based decision-making.
