Spotlight: QAA UK Quality Code for Higher Education
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education’s Quality Code sets out the Expectations that all providers of UK higher education are required to meet.
Recently published, ‘Chapter 11: Research degrees’ of the Code sets out the expectation that a research environment should provide secure academic standards for learning about research approaches, methods, procedures and protocols. Chapter 11 also describes the support that research students need in order to achieve successful academic outcomes from their research degrees.
UKRIO welcomes the Code’s recognition that institutions and supervisors should provide guidance to research degree students on research practice and the implications and avoidance of research misconduct. We strongly agree that research students must be made aware of the need to exercise probity and conduct their research according to ethical principles.
