Professor Dame Linda Partridge appointed as new Chair of UKRIO

01 May 2025

The UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Dame Linda Partridge CBE DBE FRS FRSE FMedSci as its new Chair of Trustees.

A distinguished geneticist, Professor Dame Linda is internationally renowned for her pioneering research in the biology of ageing and the genetic mechanisms underlying age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. She currently serves as the Weldon Professor of Biometry at the Institute of Healthy Ageing, University College London (UCL), and Founding Director Emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany. Professor Dame Linda was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1996 and appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2009 for her services to science.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Dame Linda said:

“I am honoured to be appointed as UKRIO’s next Chair of Trustees and to support the charity at a pivotal time for the research sector.

Research integrity underpins both the advancement of knowledge and the progress of society, and UKRIO plays a vital role in supporting the research community to uphold the highest standards. As the sector grapples with complex and evolving challenges – from concerns about reproducibility to the opportunities and risks of emerging technologies – UKRIO’s work has never been more crucial.

I look forward to working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Advisory Council, the Expert Community, and the office team to advance the charity’s mission. Together, we will deepen UKRIO’s support for the research community and lead new initiatives that strengthen the UK’s position as a global leader in high-quality research and innovation.”

Professor Dame Linda succeeds Professor Sir Ian Boyd FRS FRSB FRSE, who has stepped down after six years in the role of Chair of UKRIO’s Board of Trustees. Professor Sir Ian’s outstanding leadership guided the charity through a significant period of evolution and growth, during which the organisation expanded its profile and reach as a trusted voice and thought leader in research integrity.

Stephanie Neave, Chief Executive Officer of UKRIO, commented:

“On behalf of everyone at UKRIO, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Sir Ian Boyd for his exceptional leadership during his two terms as Chair of our Board of Trustees. His vision and guidance have been instrumental in strengthening our reach and impact, and UKRIO would not be the organisation it is today without his dedicated leadership.

I am equally delighted to welcome Professor Dame Linda Partridge as our new Chair. Her appointment comes at a crucial time for UKRIO, as we review our long-term strategy and consider  how to best respond to the research community’s needs and priorities. As a distinguished scientist, strategic leader, and research integrity champion, Professor Dame Linda brings a wealth of experience that will be invaluable as we continue working to ensure integrity remains at the heart of UK research.”
