Working and volunteering with us

Do you want to work or volunteer for UKRIO to advise and educate UK researchers and institutions about research integrity? See below for our vacancies and information on volunteering with our Advisory Community.

Working with UKRIO

Working for UKRIO is an opportunity for you to develop a broad base of skills in a busy charity and gain an understanding of the challenges facing the integrity and quality of research in the UK. We work with universities, NHS Trusts, other research organisations, Government, regulatory and professional bodies, as well as with our counterparts in other countries.

Our small team works with our Trustees and Advisory Council to carry out our programme of work. We also co-ordinate the volunteer experts who support the work of the charity and we liaise with our many institutional subscribers.

Our benefits include:

  • 25 days annual leave (pro rated for part-time roles) plus statutory and public holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Interest-free season ticket loan (usually following successful completion of probation)
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Flexible working, including compressed hours

Volunteering with UKRIO

UKRIO is a small charity and our many successes could not have been achieved without the generous and expert support of our volunteers. Some of our volunteers sit on our Board of Trustees or our Advisory Council, the bodies that oversee UKRIO’s strategy and work programme, while others join our Advisory Community.

Joining our Advisory Community

We are actively recruiting volunteers for our Advisory Community. We are seeking people with experience in providing support and guidance to individuals or institutions on good research practice, research culture and related issues, whether in a formal role, as part of peer-support activities, or at the grassroots level. This offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to UKRIO’s shaping of research integrity policy in the UK and to help people faced with challenges to good research practice.

Our Advisory Community informs and supports the work of UKRIO, helping ensure we are in touch with the needs and concerns of the research community. Our volunteer Advisers play a vital and varied role in supporting the activities of our charity, such as UKRIO’s Advisory Service, where they help UKRIO offer expert guidance on the best ways to support good research practice, improve research culture and address poor practice and misconduct. Most of their work is conducted remotely and we ensure that Advisers are not overburdened by allocating enquiries carefully and proportionately. UKRIO recognises the invaluable contribution made by the people who volunteer to support it; Advisers are always free to decline assignments without losing our goodwill.

Advisers give their time to UKRIO pro bono and are not employees of the organisation. We pay reasonable expenses incurred by Advisers in supporting UKRIO. Appropriate insurances and indemnities cover our volunteers, including Advisers, when acting on behalf of UKRIO.

More information on the work of UKRIO’s Advisers, including their Code of Conduct and UKRIO’s protocol for responding to requests for assistance, can be found here:

If you are interested in volunteering as an Adviser, please send a CV and a brief summary of your research integrity experience to info@ukrio.org. All applications are confidential.
