Professor Maria Goddard
Maria Goddard is Professor of Health Economics at the University of York and served as Director of the research unit from 2009-2021. She has had a long career in the research community, beginning as a junior researcher at the University of Kent in 1986. She also worked in the civil service as an economic advisor in the Department of Health (1993-96).
She was a non-executive director on the Board of NHS Digital (2014-17) and is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Learned Society of Wales. She has served on numerous research award and funding panels in the UK (e.g., the Wellcome Trust, NIHR Clinical Science Awards, Health Foundation covid research panels) and overseas (eg, Research Councils in Sweden and Norway, Irish Health Board). She has interests in equality and diversity and has been an elected member of the Women’s Committee of the Royal Economic Society, as well as serving on many University EDI committees and groups.
