European Commission report on responsible research and innovation

The European Commission have published the findings of the Expert Group on the State of Art in Europe on Responsible Research and Innovation.

The report  ‘Options for Responsible Research and Innovation’  aims to ensure stakeholders obtain relevant knowledge, effectively evaluate outcomes and options in terms of societal needs and moral values and employ these considerations to design and develop research, products and services.

It poses four policy scenarios and compares their potential for success. It does not recommend increased legislation but suggests amendments to progress measures when considering ethical and societal needs.

The report concludes by recommending a voluntary and flexible system of improved coordination for responsible research and innovation between Member States.
