Spotlight: US National Institutes of Health policies and procedures for promoting scientific integrity

In November 2012, the USA’s medical research agency, National Institutes of Health (NIH) published NIH Policies and Procedures for Promoting Scientific Integrity.

The centralised document consolidates the NIH’s policies and procedures for ensuring the highest degree of scientific integrity. Its publication fulfills the memorandum issued by President Obama in March 2009, instructing the Director of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to develop recommendations to uphold scientific integrity. It also consolidates information from a wide range of NIH documents into a single source. The section on ‘NIH as a funder of research’ will be of particular interest to those applying for NIH grants.
