12 March 2026
The UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) is delighted to announce that Dr Josephine Woodhams has been appointed Director of Programmes.
Dr Woodhams has been a central part of UKRIO for more than eight years, progressing from Project Officer to Senior Programmes Manager. During this time, she has provided principled leadership across UKRIO’s advisory service and programme of work, contributing significantly to the organisation’s growth and increasing national influence.
She has led and co-developed a wide range of high-impact initiatives, including UKRIO’s nationally recognised guidance on artificial intelligence and authorship. Her work is widely valued for its practical insights and collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach. For nearly five years, she has also overseen UKRIO’s confidential advisory service, ensuring the delivery of trusted, proportionate and expert support to the UK research community.
Before joining UKRIO, Dr Woodhams built a strong foundation in research through a decade-long career in higher education and collaborative scientific projects, underpinned by a PhD in Medicine (Clinical Studies).
In her new role, Dr Woodhams will lead UKRIO’s programme of work at a pivotal moment in the charity’s development. She will oversee the creation of high-quality guidance, resources and events, lead the confidential advisory service, and provide strategic oversight of key areas of programme design and delivery. Working closely with a small team of Programmes Managers, as well as associates and expert volunteers, she will help ensure UKRIO’s outputs remain responsive to sector needs and grounded in robust evidence and real-world experience.
As a member of the senior leadership team, Dr Woodhams will also play an important role in shaping UKRIO’s longer-term strategy, contributing to the organisation’s theory of change and supporting its continued development as a trusted voice and thought leader in research integrity. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process.
UKRIO extends its sincere thanks to Dr Woodhams for her extensive contributions to date and looks forward to working with her in this important leadership role.
