Retraction Watch reports on papers being retracted for citation manipulation

The excellent Retraction Watch blog reports on an interesting development: perhaps the first retraction of journal articles for deliberately adding references to manipulate the citation record.

The report also contains links to the publisher’s statement on the matter and to articles on the phenomena of self-citation and so-called ‘citation cartels’ by Ben Goldacre of Bad Science and Phil Davies of The Scholarly Kitchen.
