Health Research Authority announces plans to streamline research application procedures

The Health Research Authority has announced its forthcoming programme of work. This includes providing the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) as the platform for unified approval process to support the efficient set-up of health research.

The HRA website describes how IRAS  will provide a coordinated route for obtaining approvals, rather than making individual approvals itself. The aim is to support proportionate review of health research projects, within a wider context of effective and efficient oversight, to protect and promote the interests of patients and the public in health research.
