UKRIO Annual Conference: update on speakers

Delegate registration for this event has now closed. Please contact us if you would like to go on the waiting list in case any places become available.

Unfortunately, Sir Patrick Vallance, the Government Chief Scientific Adviser, is no longer able to speak at our conference. Instead, UKRIO’s current Chair, Professor Sir Bernard Silverman, will reflect on the challenges facing the UK research community in safeguarding and enhancing a culture of good research practice.

Also speaking will be Susan Zimmerman, Executive Director of the Canadian Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research. Given the proposals to introduce oversight measures for research integrity in the UK that draw on systems already in use in Canada and elsewhere, we are sure that this will be a fascinating session.

Professor Leanne Hodson of the University of Oxford will discuss the vital roles of leadership and team-building in ensuring a healthy research culture, an issue highlighted by the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee and other investigations of research integrity.

Parallel sessions will explore new developments in the UK research integrity landscape; enhancing the reliability and reproducibility of research; improving the reporting of clinical trials; and exploring best practice in investigating research misconduct.

A panel discussion will close the conference, drawing on a wide range of perspectives and expertise.

The conference will also provide delegates the opportunity to discuss issues that matter to them and share their own experiences. Adding to the normal conference programme, we plan to host a drinks reception with canapes at the end of the conference between 16.30-18.00. This will be a networking opportunity and, weather permitting, will be held in the Royal College of Physician’s garden of medicinal plants.
