Professor Michael Farthing

Michael Farthing is Vice-Chair of the UK Research Integrity Office, as well as being a Trustee of the organisation and a Member of its Advisory Board.

He is an honorary Professor at UCL Medical School and was Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Medicine at the University of Sussex until 2016. He was formerly Principal and Professor of Medicine at St George’s, University of London and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Glasgow. He is a past President of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the European Association of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Nutrition and United European Gastroenterology.

He was editor of Gut from 1996-2002, is an editorial board member of several international gastroenterology journals, and Head of Faculty for Gastroenterology & Hepatology for F1000. He was founding Chair of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
