Michael Farthing is Vice-Chair of the UK Research Integrity Office, as well as being a Trustee of the organisation and a Member of its Advisory Board.
He is Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Medicine at the University of Sussex. He was formerly Principal and Professor of Medicine at St George’s, University of London and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Glasgow. He is a member of the General Medical Council, and is a past President of the British Society of Gastroenterology and the European Association of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Nutrition. He is President Elect of the United European Gastroenterology Federation.
He was editor of Gut from 1996-2002, is an editorial board member of several international gastroenterology journals, and Head of Faculty for Gastroenterology & Hepatology for F1000. He was founding chairman of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
